Untilted

Untilted is the eighth studio album by Autechre, released in 2005 on Warp Records. It marks a significant stylistic shift toward a more 'dry' and percussive sound, largely attributed to the duo's extensive use of the Elektron Monomachine during this period. Unlike the dense, reverb-heavy textures of 'Confield' or 'Draft 7.30', Untilted is characterized by its sharp, high-velocity transients and clinical digital clarity. The album is notable for its rhythmic complexity, often featuring polyrhythms that evolve over long durations, most notably on the sixteen-minute centerpiece 'Sublimit'. The release was famously preceded by a 'fake' leak, a tactic the band had used in the past to subvert file-sharing networks. Critically, the album was seen as a return to a more rhythmic, albeit highly abstract, form of 'machine funk' that bridged the gap between their early dancefloor-adjacent work and their later, more purely algorithmic explorations. It remains one of the most polarizing yet technically impressive entries in their discography.
