Gantz Graf

Released in 2002, Gantz Graf represents one of Autechre's most radical departures into pure abstraction and algorithmic composition. While their earlier work maintained a vestigial connection to techno and hip-hop rhythms, this EP largely abandons recognizable grooves in favor of hyper-complex, non-repeating glitch patterns. The title track is famously associated with Alex Rutterford's CGI video, which attempted to map every microscopic sound to a shifting 3D object, cementing the album's reputation as a 'visual' sonic experience. The EP also serves as a bridge between the more melodic 'Confield' era and the increasingly dense, long-form explorations of their later career.
