L—event

Released in late 2013 as a companion piece to their eleventh studio album Exai, L - event serves as a concentrated distillation of Autechre's work during this period. While often categorized as an EP, its 26-minute runtime and structural density give it the weight of a full-length statement. The tracks were recorded during the same sessions as Exai and share that album's fascination with FM synthesis and algorithmic sequencing. However, L - event feels more aggressive and spatially experimental. Critics noted that while Exai was a sprawling journey, L - event is a sharp, focused strike. The track 'Osla for n' is particularly significant for its more ambient, drifting qualities, providing a counterpoint to the rhythmic violence found elsewhere on the record. It represents the duo's continued mastery of the Max/MSP environment, pushing digital synthesis to its absolute limit.
