Time to Be King

Released in 2010, Time to Be King marks a significant moment in Masterplan's history as the return of powerhouse vocalist Jørn Lande. Following his departure in 2006, the band experimented with Mike DiMeo on MK II, but this fourth outing was marketed as a return to the 'classic' lineup's chemistry. Sonically, the album represents a shift toward a 'rawer and less complex' sound compared to the highly progressive Aeronautics. Guitarist Roland Grapow and keyboardist Axel Mackenrott leaned into more direct, anthemic songwriting, though tracks like 'Blue Europa' and 'The Dark Road' maintain their progressive DNA. The album received positive reviews for its production quality and Lande's performance, though some critics noted the departure of drummer Uli Kusch left a void in the rhythmic complexity Masterplan was known for.
