Angel’s Flight

Released in 2021, Angel’s Flight represents a significant conceptual pivot for Geir Jenssen, the Norwegian electronic pioneer known as Biosphere. While his career is defined by the 'arctic ambient' sound of records like Substrata, this album looks inward toward the history of Western classical music. The entire work is derived from samples of Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 14, which Jenssen has deconstructed and reassembled into twelve haunting vignettes. The title refers to the iconic funicular railway in Los Angeles, though the music feels far removed from any specific geography, existing instead in a liminal space between the concert hall and the digital void. Critics noted the album's 'hauntological' quality, comparing it to the works of The Caretaker, though Jenssen maintains his signature clinical precision.
