Nordheim Transformed

Nordheim Transformed is a collaborative project where Biosphere (Geir Jenssen) and Deathprod (Helge Sten) were commissioned to remix and rework the archives of Arne Nordheim, Norway's most prominent contemporary composer. While the full release includes Deathprod's contributions, the Biosphere-specific tracks represent a pivotal moment in Jenssen's discography. Moving away from the 'arctic techno' of Substrata, this album leans into more abstract, textural territory. Jenssen utilizes Nordheim's electronic and orchestral experiments from the 1960s and 70s, treating them as found objects to be looped, filtered, and processed. The album was released on Rune Grammofon, a label synonymous with the intersection of jazz, electronic, and avant-garde music. It remains a high-water mark for the 'remix as reimagination' concept, successfully translating academic electronic music into a modern ambient context while maintaining a haunting, cohesive aesthetic.
