Skrew

Skrew emerged from the Austin, Texas scene in the early 1990s, led by visionary Adam Grossman. Originally evolving from the thrash metal band Angkor Wat, Skrew pivoted sharply into industrial territory, becoming one of the first American bands to successfully fuse the technicality of metal with the sampling and sequencing of industrial music.

Their debut, 'Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame,' was produced by Ministry's Al Jourgensen, which cemented their pedigree within the Wax Trax! era of industrial culture. Throughout the 90s, their sound evolved from raw thrash-industrial into a more polished, groove-oriented assault on 'Dusted' and 'Shadow of Doubt.' After a long hiatus starting in 1998, the band returned in 2009 with a modernized, even more aggressive approach. Critically, they are viewed as a bridge between the high-concept electronic experimentation of the UK scene (Pitchshifter, Cubanate) and the more traditional American groove metal movement. Their influence is felt in the 'coldwave' sub-movement of industrial metal, prioritizing atmosphere and mechanical precision over melodic hooks.
