Cyan

Cyan (the German industrial project) is the solo outlet for the vocalist of the darkwave act The Eternal Afflict. Emerging in the mid-1990s, the project represents a pivot from the gothic sensibilities of his main band toward a more abrasive, electro-industrial sound.

This era of Cyan is characterized by its collaboration with members of Skinny Puppy, which heavily influenced the project's approach to sound design and vocal processing. The sound identity is defined by overdriven analog synths, aggressive sampling, and a nihilistic lyrical perspective. While often grouped with EBM, Cyan leans harder into the 'noise' and 'industrial' aspects of the genre, prioritizing texture and atmosphere over pop structures. Critically, the project is viewed as a cult classic of the 90s German electronic underground, bridging the gap between traditional industrial and the emerging power-noise scene. Its cultural position is firmly rooted in the 'Schwarze Szene' (Black Scene) of Germany, though its influence extends to international industrial collectors.
