High-octane German power metal with soaring twin-guitar harmonies and spiritual themes. Fast, melodic, and relentlessly optimistic music for a long drive.
Seventh Avenue delivers a quintessential German power metal experience, characterized by a relentless forward momentum and a bright, polished sonic palette. Their sound is defined by the interplay of galloping double-bass drumming and intricate, harmonized guitar leads that feel both technically precise and emotionally uplifting. It is music that aims for the rafters, trading in the grit of traditional heavy metal for a more crystalline, epic sensibility.
What sets them apart is the seamless integration of spiritual themes into the high-speed framework of speed metal. Unlike many of their darker contemporaries, Seventh Avenue maintains a sense of clarity and hope, even during their most intense instrumental passages. The vocals are powerful and melodic, avoiding the harshness of extreme metal in favor of anthemic choruses that are designed to be sung along to in a live setting.
To get the full experience, start with the album 'Eternals' or 'Between the Worlds'. These records showcase the band at their peak, balancing technical proficiency with the catchy, melodic songwriting that made them a staple of the European Christian metal scene. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who loves the soaring energy of Helloween or the classic twin-guitar attack of Iron Maiden.
Seventh Avenue was a Christian metal band from Wolfsburg, Germany, formed in 1989. Consisting of guitarist/vocalist Herbie Langhans, guitarist Florian Gottsleben, bassist Markus Beck, and drummer Mike Pflüger, Seventh Avenue played a hybrid style of speed and power metal with a focus on melodies. They released six albums and two EPs. The band launched a demo titled First Strike in 1993, but the loss of their guitarist delayed their first album, Rainbowland, until 1995. They then signed with Treasure Hunt Records. Their first release on this label, Tales of Tales, topped at No. 18 on the Japanese heavy metal charts. The 1998 release Southgate was licensed to Megahard Records for release in Brazil, where the band subsequently toured.
