Burning Point

Burning Point is a cornerstone of the Oulu, Finland metal scene, emerging in the late 1990s as part of the second wave of European power metal. Founded by guitarist and vocalist Pete Ahonen, the band has navigated numerous lineup changes and label shifts while maintaining a remarkably consistent sonic identity.

Their early work on Limb Music established them as purveyors of melodic, fast-paced metal, but it was their mid-career evolution that saw them incorporating more diverse vocal textures and sophisticated arrangements. The inclusion of Nitte Valo (ex-Battle Beast) for a period significantly shifted their dynamic toward a more aggressive, theatrical vocal style, which remains a hallmark of their 2010s output. Critically, they are respected for their 'no-nonsense' approach to the genre, eschewing overly symphonic tropes in favor of guitar-driven power and traditional heavy metal song structures. They occupy a cultural space between the polished power metal of Stratovarius and the harder-edged heavy metal of the German school, making them a staple at European metal festivals like Tuska and Sweden Rock.
