Maintain

Maintain is a foundational entity in the German metalcore scene, formed in 1998 in Lower Saxony. Emerging from a rural environment where hardcore was a niche subculture, the band quickly distinguished themselves by integrating high-level technical proficiency into the traditionally simplistic hardcore framework.

Influenced by the 'metallic hardcore' wave of the late 90s (specifically Turmoil and Earth Crisis), they evolved a sound that prioritized rhythmic syncopation and dense, compressed production. Their career arc saw them peak during the mid-2000s metalcore boom with the release of 'Reveal Our Disguise to an Infinite Abyss' and 'With a Vengeance,' albums that solidified their reputation for disciplined, aggressive songwriting. Critically, they are viewed as a bridge between the 'Old School' hardcore ethics and the 'New School' metal production standards. Within the European scene, they are often grouped with peers like Misery Speaks and Fall of Serenity, though Maintain maintains a more pronounced hardcore 'groove' compared to the more melodic-death-influenced acts of the era.
