Macho

Macho was the primary musical vehicle for Italian vocalist Marzio Vincenzi, emerging from the fertile disco scene of Bologna in the late 1970s. The project is most famous for its collaboration with legendary producer Mauro Malavasi and the Goody Music label, which helped define the 'Italo Disco' sound before it transitioned into the synth-heavy aesthetic of the 1980s.

Their 1978 debut, 'I'm A Man', became a massive international club hit, bridging the gap between the organic funk of the early 70s and the increasingly electronic future of dance music. Macho's sound is characterized by high production values, utilizing top-tier session musicians to create a 'Wall of Sound' disco effect. Historically, Macho is significant for pioneering the 'Rosco' (Rock-Disco) subgenre, which incorporated more aggressive guitar work and masculine vocal deliveries into the dance floor template. This approach influenced the harder edges of the Hi-NRG movement and remains a staple for crate-diggers and Italo aficionados.
