El Coco

El Coco was the primary disco vehicle for the prolific production duo of W. Michael Lewis and Laurin Rinder.

Operating under their RinLew Productions banner, the duo transitioned from the 1960s hard rock scene into the emerging disco market of the mid-70s. Their output was staggering, characterized by a high-speed, high-fidelity sound that merged jazz-influenced arrangements with the emerging electronic pulse of the era. While often categorized alongside European 'Euro-disco' pioneers like Giorgio Moroder, El Coco maintained a distinctly American grit, utilizing live percussion alongside early synthesizers. Their work is historically significant for its role in the evolution of electronic rhythm, specifically the 'four-on-the-floor' consistency that would later define house music.
