Kryptos

Kryptos is a foundational pillar of the Indian metal scene, formed in Bangalore in 1998. They represent a successful bridge between the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) and the aggressive Teutonic thrash movement.

Their sound identity is defined by the interplay of Nolan Lewis's raspy, rhythmic vocals and precise, melodic guitar work that echoes the complexity of bands like Coroner or Dark Tranquillity while remaining accessible. Over a career spanning seven albums, they have evolved from a gritty underground act into a globally recognized force, becoming the first Indian metal band to sign with an international label (Old School Metal Records) and perform at Wacken Open Air. Critically, they are lauded for their 'retro-futurist' approach, capturing the aesthetic of the 1980s without sounding like a mere parody. Their influence on the South Asian metal landscape is immeasurable, having paved the way for the region's heavy music infrastructure.
