Kidneythieves

Slinky, mechanical grooves meets soaring operatic vocals. Industrial rock that feels like a high-speed chase through a rain-soaked cyberpunk city.

Intro

Kidneythieves occupy the dark, humid intersection where industrial grit meets high-drama melody. Their sound is defined by the interplay between Bruce Somers' surgical, metallic production and Free Dominguez's versatile voice, which can shift from a vulnerable whisper to a glass-shattering belt in a single breath. It is music that feels both high-tech and deeply primal, utilizing the cold precision of synthesizers to explore the messy, organic depths of the human psyche.

What truly sets them apart is their commitment to atmosphere. While many of their industrial peers lean into pure aggression, Kidneythieves favor a 'slinky' tension. There is a rhythmic swing to their tracks that suggests trip-hop influence, providing a seductive undercurrent to the distorted guitars and clanging percussion. Their songs often feel like mini-cinematic experiences, which explains their frequent appearances on soundtracks for cult horror and sci-fi films.

For those new to the band, Zerøspace is the essential entry point. It captures the duo at their most polished and potent, balancing hooky alternative rock sensibilities with the dark, experimental textures that define the industrial genre. It is the perfect soundtrack for moments that require a mix of intensity and introspection.

Kidneythieves is an American industrial rock duo from Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 1997 by vocalist Free Dominguez and guitarist/engineer Bruce Somers, and throughout their existence have worked with a revolving door of session musicians and live band members. After releasing two albums, Trickster (1998) and Zerøspace (2002), Kidneythieves went on hiatus in late 2004, but regrouped again in late 2007.
