HammerFall

HammerFall is a cornerstone of the late-90s power metal revival. Formed in Gothenburg in 1993 by Oscar Dronjak, the band emerged from a scene dominated by melodic death metal (with early members coming from In Flames and Dark Tranquillity).

While their peers were pushing toward extremity, HammerFall looked backward to Judas Priest and Accept, revitalizing traditional heavy metal with a melodic, anthemic sensibility. Their 1997 debut, 'Glory to the Brave,' is credited with proving that classic metal still had commercial viability in the post-grunge era. Throughout their career, they have maintained a remarkably consistent sound, centered on the 'Hector' mascot and themes of chivalry and battle. Critically, they are respected for their technical execution and for maintaining the 'true metal' flame, influencing a generation of power metal bands that followed. Their work is essential for collectors of European metal, representing the bridge between 80s tradition and 21st-century production standards.
