Driving synth-pop with a theatrical heart. Melodic basslines and shimmering keys provide the backdrop for raw, soulful vocals that pivot from crooning to growling.
Formed in 2006, the American synth-pop group Future Islands originated in North Carolina before establishing their base in Baltimore. The band features vocalist Samuel T. Herring, keyboardist Gerrit Welmers, bassist William Cashion, and drummer Michael Lowry. Following early independent releases on Thrill Jockey, the trio achieved widespread recognition with their 2014 album Singles, issued through 4AD. Their career is defined by consistent touring and a dedicated cult following.
