Ankhara

Ankhara emerged in the mid-1990s as a pivotal force in the Spanish heavy metal resurgence, bridging the gap between traditional 80s 'heavy' and the burgeoning power metal scene of the late 90s. Formed in Madrid, they quickly gained notoriety for their technical proficiency, sharing stages with legends like Saxon.

Their sound identity is characterized by the high-register, operatic vocals of Pacho Brea and the sophisticated guitar work of Cecilio Sanchez and Antonio Pino. While often categorized as power metal, their work - particularly on 'Ankhara II' and 'Sombras del pasado' - incorporates progressive structures and neoclassical flourishes. After a hiatus in the mid-2000s, their return with 'Sinergia' in 2018 proved their lasting influence, showcasing a heavier, more modern production style while retaining their melodic core.
