His 1982 debut is historically significant for its self-produced 'one-man-band' approach, utilizing his skills as an engineer to create a sound more sophisticated than the standard garage-born rock of the era. Nova's influence is most visible in his collaboration with Jon Bon Jovi, where he helped shape the 'Blaze of Glory' sound, and his later transition into a Grammy-winning producer for Celine Dion. His work is characterized by the 'Fantasy' formula: a heavy, rhythmic guitar riff doubled by a prominent synthesizer hook, supported by high-register vocals and massive drum reverb.
