Intro

Listening to Acid Mothers Temple is less like hearing a band and more like being caught in a solar flare. Their sound is a colossal, shimmering wall of psychedelic noise that manages to be both punishingly loud and strangely beautiful. It is built on the foundation of 1970s space rock and krautrock, but accelerated to a point of total meltdown where guitars sound like jet engines and synthesizers scream like extraterrestrial birds.

What makes them truly distinctive is their commitment to the 'freakout.' While other psychedelic bands might dabble in trippy effects, AMT pushes every dial into the red for twenty minutes at a time. Kawabata Makoto's signature glissando guitar technique creates a liquid, rushing sensation that makes the music feel like it is constantly ascending, even when the rhythm section is locked into a hypnotic, repetitive groove.

To get started, dive into 'Electric Heavyland' for their most aggressive rock energy, or 'Does the Cosmic Shepherd Dream of Electric Tapirs?' for a more expansive, atmospheric journey. This is music designed to be played at maximum volume to achieve a state of sensory overload and, eventually, a kind of transcendental calm.

Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O., commonly shortened to Acid Mothers Temple or AMT, is a Japanese rock band, the core of which formed in 1995. The band is led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto and early in their career featured many musicians and offshoot groups and collaborations, but by 2004 the line-up had coalesced with only a few core members and frequent guest vocalists. The band has released albums frequently on a number of international record labels as well as the Acid Mothers Temple family record label, which was established in 1998 to document the activities of the whole collective.
