High-velocity Japanese psychedelia that hits like a meteor. Massive guitar squalls and oscillating synths for those who want their space rock heavy and loud.
This is music that sounds like it was recorded inside a particle accelerator. It is a dense, swirling vortex of heavy riffs, screaming glissando guitars, and analog synthesizers that sound like they are melting. While the core Acid Mothers Temple collective is known for drifting into ambient space, the Cosmic Inferno offshoot is the aggressive, hard-rocking sibling that never lets up on the gas pedal.
What makes this specific iteration distinctive is the sheer velocity and rhythmic weight. It takes the free-form exploration of 60s acid rock and pushes it through a filter of Japanese noise and motorik precision. The guitars don't just play notes; they emit sheets of sound that feel tactile and overwhelming, anchored by a dual-drummer energy that keeps the chaos from ever fully collapsing.
Start with 'IAO Chant From the Cosmic Inferno' to experience their ability to turn a repetitive, ritualistic vocal into a towering wall of psychedelic fire. It is perfect for listeners who find standard psych-rock too polite and want something that feels genuinely dangerous and expansive.
Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O., commonly shortened to Acid Mothers Temple or AMT, is a Japanese rock band, the core of which formed in 1995. The band is led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto and early in their career featured many musicians and offshoot groups and collaborations, but by 2004 the line-up had coalesced with only a few core members and frequent guest vocalists. The band has released albums frequently on a number of international record labels as well as the Acid Mothers Temple family record label, which was established in 1998 to document the activities of the whole collective.
