Intro

3 Hürel sounds like a sun-drenched intersection of East and West, where the grit of 1970s garage rock meets the intricate melodic scales of the Anatolian plateau. Their music is defined by a warm, analog crunch and a rhythmic urgency that feels both ancient and modern. It is the sound of three brothers communicating through a shared musical language that favors groove and atmosphere over polished perfection.

What truly sets them apart is their commitment to original composition at a time when many of their peers were rearranging traditional folk songs. The centerpiece of their sound is Feridun Hürel's custom double-necked instrument, which allowed him to switch seamlessly between the electric guitar's sustain and the saz's percussive, microtonal bite. This technical innovation creates a sonic texture that is uniquely theirs: a 'saz-rock' hybrid that feels deeply rooted in Turkish soil yet reaches for the stars.

To experience 3 Hürel at their peak, start with their 1970s singles or the 'Hürel Arşivi' collection. These tracks capture the raw energy of their early years, showcasing their ability to blend heavy psych riffs with poetic lyrics about peace and longing. It is essential listening for anyone exploring the global psychedelic explosion of the 20th century.

3 Hürel (Turkish pronunciation: [ytʃ.hyɾæl]), also stylized as 3 Hür-El or Üç Hürel, was a Turkish rock band, formed in 1970 by siblings Onur, Haldun and Feridun Hürel. Considered as among Turkey's most popular Anatolian rock bands, the band performed folk-driven pop and rock music and occasionally also paraphrased classic folk songs with considerable ingenuity. Their lyrics generally featured themes such as peace and freedom.
