Tribute to the Gods

Tribute to the Gods, released in 2001, serves as a bridge between Iced Earth's 'Something Wicked' era and their later output. It is a curated collection of covers that shaped the band's sound, featuring tracks from Iron Maiden, Kiss, Judas Priest, and Blue Öyster Cult. Recorded at Morrisound Studios, the album is notable for its relatively 'dry' production compared to the dense, layered arrangements of 'The Dark Saga' or 'Night of the Stormrider'. This was the final studio release to feature the classic lineup of Matt Barlow, Jon Schaffer, Larry Tarnowski, James MacDonough, and Richard Christy before Barlow's initial departure. The album is frequently praised for its faithful yet distinct interpretations, particularly the 'Iced Earth-ified' versions of 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' and 'The Number of the Beast', which showcase Schaffer's signature galloping rhythm style applied to the NWOBHM foundations.
