Oak and Julian

Released in 2007, Oak and Julian serves as a bridge and a reflection of the sound Midlake perfected on 'The Trials of Van Occupanther'. While that album was characterized by its rich, Fleetwood Mac-meets-Jethro Tull production, this EP offers a significantly more lo-fi and intimate perspective. It features acoustic versions and tracks that emphasize the band's folk roots over their soft-rock leanings. The recording quality has a distinct bedroom-production feel, with tape saturation and a dry, close-mic'd vocal presence that highlights the vulnerability in the songwriting.
