Gods of War

Released in 2007, Gods of War represents Manowar's most ambitious foray into the concept album format. Centered on the Norse god Odin, it was intended as the first in a series of albums dedicated to war gods of various cultures. Sonically, it marks a significant shift toward symphonic metal, utilizing extensive keyboard work and orchestral samples to create a cinematic atmosphere. The album is notable for its structure, which includes multiple overtures and spoken-word narratives (often criticized by some fans for their length), interspersed with traditional power metal anthems. The physical release was famous for its commitment to the theme, featuring a booklet entirely written in Runic script. Despite the heavy use of orchestration, the album closes with 'Die for Metal', a self-referential anthem that reaffirms the band's core philosophy. It remains a definitive example of 'Epic Metal' in the 21st century.
