Disturbing the Peace

Disturbing the Peace is the 1988 debut and only full-length LP from the Chicago-based band Disturbed (not to be confused with the later multi-platinum nu-metal act of the same name, though they share the moniker). Released on the short-lived Channel 83 Records, the album is a quintessential example of late-80s thrash metal with significant hardcore punk influences. Unlike the polished, rhythmic alternative metal the name 'Disturbed' would later become synonymous with, this record is characterized by lo-fi production, high-velocity 'gallop' riffing, and a raw, abrasive vocal style. The tracklist, featuring titles like 'Brain Deth' and 'Die, Die, Die', reflects the era's preoccupation with morbidity and social decay.
