Meshuggah

Released in 1989 and often referred to as 'Psykos' due to the cover art, this self-titled EP is the debut release from Meshuggah. While the band would later become the primary architects of the 'djent' sound, this record is firmly rooted in technical thrash metal, drawing significant influence from Metallica and Anthrax. However, tracks like 'Cadaverous Mastication' already display the nascent rhythmic experimentation and unconventional song structures that would eventually lead to their signature style. The lineup featured Jens Kidman on both vocals and guitar, providing a different sonic dynamic than their later guitar-heavy configurations.
