Intro

Vega crafts a sound that feels like a private conversation held in a grand, resonant hall. Her music is rooted in the Spanish 'canción de autor' tradition, but it breathes with a modern, alternative pop sensibility that avoids the clichés of radio-friendly balladry. There is a tactile warmth to her recordings, often featuring organic instrumentation like woody acoustic guitars and sweeping string sections that frame her expressive, slightly breathy vocals.

What sets her apart is her uncompromising artistic independence and the way she weaves influences from 90s alternative rock into her melodic pop structures. Her songs often possess a slow-burn intensity, building from delicate whispers to powerful, cathartic crescendos without ever losing their sense of poise. It is music that respects the listener's intelligence, focusing on complex emotional landscapes and self-reflective narratives.

Newcomers should dive into 'Metamorfosis' or 'La cuenta atrás' to hear her at her most balanced. These albums showcase her ability to marry catchy, sophisticated hooks with the raw, honest songwriting that has defined her career since she moved away from the mainstream spotlight to find her own voice.

Mercedes Mígel Carpio (born 18 February 1979, in Córdoba, Spain), better known as Vega, is a Spanish singer-songwriter. Her interest in music started when she was a child. She studied Advertising and Public Relations in Segovia, where she also worked as a waitress. She left her university career to be a contestant in Operación Triunfo 2002, her springboard to fame. Her musical style can be defined as the classical Spanish canción de autor or singer-songwriter, but it shows influences of Frank Sinatra, K's Choice and Los Planetas.
