Intro

Ermal Meta creates music that feels like a deep conversation held in a beautifully lit room. It is sophisticated Italian pop that refuses to be shallow, blending the traditional 'cantautore' spirit with modern, shimmering production. His voice has a distinctive, slightly breathy quality that can pivot from a fragile whisper to a powerful, resonant belt in a single phrase, often supported by elegant piano lines and swelling orchestral strings.

What sets him apart is his lyrical depth. While his melodies are undeniably catchy and radio-ready, his songs often grapple with heavy themes like domestic violence, the scars of war, and the search for human connection in a digital age. There is a palpable sense of empathy in his work; he writes for the outsider and the thinker, wrapping complex emotional truths in accessible, high-fidelity arrangements that feel both timeless and contemporary.

Start with 'Vietato morire' to hear his ability to turn a difficult subject into an anthem of resilience. From there, explore 'Non mi avete fatto niente' for his more urgent, rhythmic side, or dive into his later work like 'Buona fortuna' to experience the full breadth of his cinematic, piano-driven pop sensibility.

Ermal Meta (Italian: [ˈɛrmal ˈmɛːta], Albanian: [ɛɾˈmal ˈmɛta]; born 20 April 1981) is an Albanian-born Italian singer-songwriter. Meta rose to prominence as one of the lead singers of Ameba 4 and La Fame di Camilla. After becoming a songwriter for several Italian artists, he launched his solo career, releasing two studio albums: Umano (2016) and Vietato morire (2017). The latter peaked at number one in Italy, and was preceded by the single with the same title, which placed third in the main competition of the Sanremo Music Festival 2017, also receiving the "Mia Martini" Critics' Prize. In 2018, Meta won the Sanremo Music Festival alongside Fabrizio Moro with "Non mi avete fatto niente", and went on to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
