UVB

UVB is the recording alias of French producer Sébastien Michel, a central figure in the mid-2010s resurgence of industrial and 'hard' techno. Emerging from a background in diverse electronic styles, Michel solidified the UVB project around 2013, focusing on a live set composed entirely of original material.

His breakthrough came via Bas Mooy's MORD label, a platform synonymous with a specific brand of uncompromising, functional techno. His sound identity is defined by a 'brutalist' aesthetic: stripped-back arrangements, heavy saturation, and a focus on the physical impact of the low-end. Critically, he is respected for maintaining a high level of production sophistication within a genre that can often veer into mindless aggression. His career arc shows a steady evolution from club-focused EPs to more expansive, conceptual long-players like 'Life' and 'A Lie's Glory', eventually leading to the founding of his own label, Body Theory. He occupies a space between the classic Birmingham sound of Surgeon and the modern industrial intensity of the Rotterdam scene, making him a staple in elite techno institutions like Berghain and Tresor.
