Intro

Happa, the project of Leeds-based producer Samir Alikhanizadeh, emerged in the early 2010s as a teenage phenomenon in the electronic scene. Initially associated with the 'post-dubstep' and UK bass explosion, his sound rapidly mutated into a much darker, industrial-influenced strain of techno.

His work is characterized by a sophisticated use of distortion and a focus on non-traditional percussion, often incorporating foley-like metallic sounds and overdriven textures that bridge the gap between dancefloor utility and power electronics. As one half of Habits of Hate, he further explored the intersection of house and industrial noise. His career arc shows a consistent move away from accessible club tropes toward a more deconstructed, experimental aesthetic, as heard on his Argot and Blue series releases. Critically, he is respected for his ability to maintain a high-energy 'groove' while utilizing sounds that would typically be considered unlistenable in a pop context. He remains a key figure for those tracking the evolution of the UK's 'harder' electronic exports.
