マキシマム ザ ホルモン

High-octane Japanese metal that pivots from guttural screams to sugary J-pop hooks in a single breath. Chaotic, funky, and brilliantly absurd.

Intro

Imagine a collision between a hardcore punk show and a hyperactive anime convention. Maximum the Hormone creates a sensory overload where heavy, downtuned nu-metal riffs coexist with slap-bass funk and bright, melodic pop choruses. It is music that refuses to sit still, constantly pulling the rug out from under the listener with whiplash-inducing tempo changes and stylistic pivots.

What truly sets them apart is the vocal chemistry. With three distinct lead voices, they can transition from Daisuke-han's manic rapping and screams to Ryo-kun's melodic grit and Nao's surprisingly sweet pop delivery. This 'menkata kotteri' (firm noodles, rich broth) approach creates a sound that is dense, complex, and deeply rewarding for those who enjoy musical unpredictability.

Start with the album 'Buiikikaesu' to hear them at their most iconic. It captures the perfect balance of their heavy roots and their gift for writing massive, infectious hooks that stay in your head long after the screaming stops.

Maximum the Hormone (Japanese: マキシマム ザ ホルモン, Hepburn: Makishimamu za Horumon) is a Japanese heavy metal/hardcore punk band from Hachiōji, Tokyo. Their lineup consists of vocalist Daisuke-han, drummer Nao, guitarist Maximum the Ryokun, and bassist Ue-chang. Each member alternates singing lead vocals, often within the same song, with the exception of Ue-chang, who provides backup vocals almost exclusively. The group is best known for their unconventional and experimental style of alternative metal music. Over their career, they have found success incorporating elements of heavy metal, hardcore punk, hip hop, pop, funk, and ska into their sound. Stylistically, their music runs the gamut from being dark and serious, to ironic or humorous, often with drastic shifts in tempo and mood over the course of a song. The band's eclectic nature frequently draws comparisons to System of a Down.
