Intro

Transmetal sounds like a freight train barreling through a desert at midnight. It is a relentless, percussive assault that bridges the gap between the technical precision of Florida death metal and the raw, unbridled energy of Latin American thrash. The guitars have a thick, serrated edge, and the drumming is characterized by a locked-in, brotherly intuition that provides a rock-solid foundation for their mid-tempo grooves and high-speed blasts.

What truly sets them apart is the vocal delivery and the cultural grit. Singing in Spanish adds a rhythmic staccato that English-language metal often lacks, making the lyrics feel like a series of physical blows. Their 1990s output, specifically the albums recorded with Scott Burns, possesses that iconic '90s death metal clarity while maintaining a street-level toughness that reflects their Mexico City origins.

Start with 'El infierno de Dante' to hear them at their peak of international production quality. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who loves the classic Sepultura or Obituary sound but wants a distinct, Spanish-language perspective on the genre.

Transmetal is an extreme metal band formed in Ciudad Azteca, Ecatepec, Mexico in 1987 by brothers Javier, Juan, and Lorenzo Partida. They are known as one of the most important metal bands in Latin America. Their most well known song is "Killers" from the Desear un Funeral EP (1989), which is a cover of French band Killers. They are also known for their 1993 album El infierno de Dante recorded at Morrisound Studios, with Scott Burns as the producer. It also featured Glen Benton on choruses. The album almost sold 100.000 copies and got them regularly featured on MTV. During their career, Transmetal have released over 30 albums which experiment in thrash and death metal, with the vocals styles based on growling. The band has also participated in shows with other notable bands such as Slayer, Sepultura, Overkill, and Kreator.
