Konkhra

Konkhra is a cornerstone of the Danish extreme metal scene, formed in 1989. Their career is defined by a refusal to stay static, evolving from a standard death/thrash unit into a primary architect of the Death'n'Roll subgenre.

Their 1995 album 'Spit or Swallow' was a landmark release, achieving unprecedented commercial success for extreme metal in Denmark. The band's sound identity is built on a foundation of thrashy precision and death metal aggression, but it is distinguished by a 'groove' influence that became more pronounced in the late 90s. This evolution was bolstered by high-profile collaborations, notably featuring James Murphy (Testament, Death) and Chris Kontos (Machine Head) on the 'Weed Out the Weak' album. Critically, they are viewed as a bridge between the old-school European death metal sound and the more modern, rhythmic approach of the late 90s. Their influence is felt in the way they integrated melodic sensibility and rock-and-roll structures into a traditionally abrasive framework.
