Formed in London in 1988, The Orb is an influential English electronic group founded by Alex Paterson and Jimmy Cauty. Over decades, the project has explored techno, ambient house, dub, and electronica, drawing inspiration from Pink Floyd. While the lineup has shifted frequently around the constant presence of Paterson, the group maintains a distinct science fiction aesthetic across releases on labels including Kompakt, Island, and Columbia Records.
