High-octane Dutch rap that bridges the gap between rowdy club anthems and vulnerable, late-night introspection. Essential for high-energy nights and honest mornings.
The Opposites sound like the pulse of a Dutch city at 2:00 AM. Their music is a collision of aggressive, bass-heavy rap and surprisingly tender pop sensibilities. One moment you are hit with distorted, gabber-adjacent synths and rowdy chants, and the next you are floating in a melodic, synth-driven reflection on growing up and making mistakes. It is music that feels physically large, designed to fill festival fields and club floors.
What makes them distinctive is the chemistry between Willy and Big2. They lean into their differences, blending Willy's sharp, often emotional delivery with Big2's versatile production and laid-back flow. They managed to turn 'Nederhop' from a niche genre into a dominant cultural force by embracing humor, local identity, and a willingness to be uncool, which ironically made them the coolest thing in the country for a decade.
Start with 'Slapeloze Nachten' for the perfect blend of their pop-rap mastery, or dive into 'Begin Twintig' to hear the raw, hungry energy of two artists figuring out their place in the world. Whether they are being 'Dom, Lomp en Famous' or deeply introspective, the energy is always infectious.
The Opposites are a Dutch rap group, consisting of Willem de Bruin (Willy) and Twan van Steenhoven (Big2). The two started rapping when de Bruin had to write a rap for his teacher as a punishment. Willem realized his rap potential and decided to continue rapping, together with friend Twan van Steenhoven he became addicted to Hip hop, so they say. The name The Opposites is a reference to the fact that Willem is short and a person of color, whereas Twan is tall and white.
