The High Kings

Polished, powerhouse Irish ballads driven by soaring four-part harmonies and multi-instrumental grit. The sound of a modern pub session scaled for a concert hall.

Intro

The High Kings deliver a sound that is both deeply rooted and strikingly modern. It is the sonic equivalent of a warm, crowded pub where the music is so loud and infectious you can't help but join in. Their arrangements take traditional Irish bones and dress them in rich, multi-part vocal harmonies that feel massive and cinematic without losing their acoustic soul.

What truly sets them apart is the sheer technical precision of their ensemble work. While many folk groups lean into a rugged, unpolished aesthetic, The High Kings opt for a high-fidelity clarity. You can hear every pluck of the banjo and every breath in their four-way vocal stacks. It is folk music with the production values of a world-class stage show, designed to make centuries-old stories feel urgent and alive.

Start with 'Friends for Life' to hear how they bridge the gap between classic standards and original songwriting. It captures that specific 'High Kings' magic: the ability to make a room of thousands feel like a tight-knit circle of friends sharing a story over a drink.

The High Kings is an Irish folk group formed in Dublin in 2008. The band consists of Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Darren Holden, and Paul O'Brien. As of 2023, the group had released five studio albums, four live albums, two live DVDs, and one greatest hits album. Their first three studio albums appeared at number three or higher on the Billboard world music chart, the first two went platinum in Ireland, and all of their albums charted in Ireland. After the release of their first album, the new group moved from a highly staged format to a more natural performance style. Their third album Friends for Life contains both traditional Irish songs, as well as some original songs. Since the inception of the group, it has toured Ireland, the United States, and Europe on several occasions. Although they sing mostly traditional Irish songs, they are also known to sing arrangements of songs from other genres.
