Sun-drenched indie rock with raspy vocals and infectious guitar hooks. High-energy anthems for road trips, festivals, and shaking off the work week.
Ten Tonnes delivers a masterclass in the kind of bright, guitar-driven indie pop that feels like a permanent British summer. The music is anchored by Ethan Barnett's distinctive vocal delivery, which balances a youthful rasp with a natural melodic sensibility. It is music that prioritizes the hook above all else, utilizing jangly electric guitars and driving percussion to create a sound that is both familiar and relentlessly catchy.
What sets him apart from the standard indie-rock pack is the precision of the songwriting. While many of his contemporaries lean into messy garage aesthetics, Ten Tonnes opts for a crisp, polished production style that lets the melodies breathe. There is a tangible sense of optimism even in the more reflective tracks, driven by a rhythm section that never seems to stop moving. It is the sound of a musician who understands the power of a three-minute pop song to completely shift the energy of a room.
Start with his self-titled debut album for the full spectrum of his sound, particularly the track 'G.I.V.E.' which perfectly encapsulates his ability to blend grit with sunshine. If you prefer something slightly more mature and introspective, 'Dancing, Alone' shows his evolution into more nuanced arrangements while keeping the core energy intact. It is essential listening for anyone who misses the golden era of UK indie-pop but wants a modern, high-fidelity update.
