Stormlord

Stormlord is a pivotal figure in the Italian extreme metal scene, having pioneered a specific blend of symphonic black metal and power metal since their formation in Rome in 1991. While early work leaned into more traditional death/black influences, their breakthrough came with the integration of heavy orchestration and a thematic pivot toward Greco-Roman mythology.

This 'Extreme Epic Metal' identity distinguishes them from the Scandinavian scene by replacing occultism and winter themes with Mediterranean history and classical tragedy. Their sound identity is built on the contrast between Cristiano Borchi's dual-vocal attack and the prominent use of 'Battle Choirs' and keyboards.
