Steel Prophet

Steel Prophet is a cornerstone of the US Power Metal (USPM) movement, specifically the more progressive and technical wing of the genre. Formed in 1983 by guitarist Steve Kachinsky, the band's sound is characterized by a sophisticated blend of Judas Priest-style aggression and the structural complexity of 70s progressive rock like Yes and Pink Floyd.

Their career reached a critical zenith in the late 1990s with the release of 'Dark Hallucinations' on Nuclear Blast, an album that solidified their reputation for high-concept lyrical themes and virtuosic musicianship. Unlike their European counterparts who often lean into symphonic or 'flower' metal, Steel Prophet maintains a darker, more thrash-influenced edge typical of the California scene. The band has navigated numerous lineup changes, yet Kachinsky's vision has remained consistent, focusing on twin-guitar harmonies and the soaring, multi-octave vocal delivery of long-time collaborator Rick Mythiasin. They are highly regarded in the underground collector circuit, particularly in Germany, for bridging the gap between traditional heavy metal and avant-garde progressive structures.
