Stasis is the primary alias of Steve Pickton, a pivotal figure in the development of the UK's 'Intelligent Techno' scene during the early 1990s. Emerging alongside labels like B12 and Peacefrog, Pickton helped define a sound that merged the high-tech soul of Detroit pioneers like Derrick May with a distinctly British sense of melancholy and cinematic scope.

His work is characterized by a sophisticated use of analog hardware, featuring complex melodic counterpoint and a rhythmic sensibility that often leaned toward electro and downtempo. Throughout his career, Pickton has maintained a cult status, evidenced by his selection by Autechre to perform at ATP and his appearances on Mo' Wax's influential Headz compilations. His discography, which includes seminal albums like 'Inspiration' and 'Fromtheoldtothenew', is regarded by collectors as essential listening for understanding the evolution of IDM and ambient techno.
