Formed in 1977, Santa Esmeralda is a disco group with roots in both France and the United States. Signed to Philips Records, the ensemble achieved commercial success through their reimagined versions of classic 1960s tracks, specifically "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and "House of the Rising Sun." The group's vocal identity was defined by original lead singer Leroy Gómez during its initial years, followed by Jimmy Goings from 1978 through 1983.
