Gritty, sample-heavy boom bap that captures the cold concrete energy of 90s Queens. Dusty loops and street-level storytelling for late-night city walks.
Royal Flush embodies the quintessential sound of mid-90s New York underground hip-hop. His music is defined by a heavy, atmospheric reliance on dusty jazz and soul samples, underpinned by the rhythmic thud of the boom-bap era. It feels like a time capsule of Queens, smelling of wet pavement and old vinyl, offering a sonic landscape that is both menacing and deeply soulful.
What sets him apart is the specific texture of his production choices, often collaborating with legends like Buckwild and Da Beatminerz. There is a certain 'muffled' quality to the loops that creates an intimate, almost claustrophobic sense of realism. His flow is steady and unpretentious, acting as a reliable guide through the narratives of street life without the hyperbole often found in his contemporaries.
Start with Ghetto Millionaire. It is a masterclass in the East Coast aesthetic, featuring some of the most evocative production of 1997. It serves as the perfect entry point for anyone looking to understand the bridge between the golden age and the harder, more cinematic rap that followed.
