Agallah

Gritty, uncompromising Brooklyn boom bap with a raspy delivery. This is the sound of the New York underground, built on dusty samples and aggressive street wisdom.

Intro

Agallah sounds like the concrete heart of Brownsville. His music is a masterclass in the 'Don Bishop' aesthetic: thick, soulful samples chopped with a jagged edge and layered over drums that hit like a physical weight. There is a persistent layer of grit in the production, a sonic dust that feels like it was pulled directly from a 1990s mixtape found in a damp basement.

What sets him apart is the sheer versatility of his pen combined with a production ear that bridges the gap between the soul-sampling Diplomats era and the darker, more abstract underground movements. He doesn't just rap; he constructs atmospheres. His voice, a seasoned and gravelly instrument, carries the authority of someone who has ghostwritten for the greats while maintaining his own fiercely independent identity.

Start with 'You Already Know' or 'Brownsvillain' to hear the quintessential Agallah sound. These projects showcase his ability to turn a simple loop into a cinematic street narrative, making them perfect for anyone who misses the era when New York hip-hop felt dangerous and soulful all at once.

Angel Luis Aguilar (born May 8, 1974), better known by his stage names Agallah is an American rapper and producer. He was a member of The Diplomats-affiliated group Purple City and he is the CEO of his label Propain Campaign. He was formerly known as 8-Off Agallah. He has ghostwritten songs for many well-known artists. In addition to producing his own music, he also produced tracks for Busta Rhymes, Remy Ma, The Diplomats, Guru, Rockin' Squat, Sean Price, Saigon, Game Theory, PMD, Das Efx, and Mobb Deep. In 1995, he finished his debut album, Wrap Your Lips Around This, but it was never properly released because the album was shelved. In 2012, Wrap Your Lips Around This became available for digital download from Amazon.com and iTunes after being unreleased for many years.
