Reptar

Reptar emerged from the fertile music scene of Athens, Georgia in the late 2000s, quickly distinguishing themselves from the city's traditional folk and garage rock lineage with a sound rooted in electronic-leaning indie pop. Led by Graham Ulicny, the band's sonic identity is defined by a 'more is more' philosophy, blending the jittery energy of Talking Heads with the psychedelic pop sensibilities of Animal Collective.

Their breakthrough came with the 'Oblangle Fizz Y'all' EP and the subsequent full-length 'Body Faucet' (2012), which showcased a sophisticated grasp of dance-punk and tropicalia. Critically, they were often grouped with the 'blog rock' era of the early 2010s, yet their music possessed a visceral, sweaty live energy that many of their contemporaries lacked. The band's influence is felt in the bridge between mid-2000s dance-punk and the more synth-heavy indie pop of the mid-2010s. Despite hiatuses and side projects, Reptar remains a cult favorite for their ability to balance surreal, abstract lyricism with undeniable, groove-oriented pop craftsmanship.
