Phlebotomized

Phlebotomized is a seminal Dutch avant-garde death metal band formed in 1989. They are primarily recognized for their pioneering integration of the violin and synthesizers into a death/doom framework, a rarity in the early 1990s extreme metal scene.

Their sound identity is defined by a dense, multi-layered approach that incorporates elements of grindcore, progressive rock, and classical music. The band's career is marked by two distinct eras: their initial 1990s run, which culminated in the highly influential 'Immense Intense Suspense' (1994) and the more experimental 'Skycontact' (1997), and their 2013 reformation which has seen them return to a more refined version of their signature progressive death metal style. Monium and Edge of Sanity, representing a period where the boundaries of death metal were being radically expanded.
