Opus Kink

Explosive, horn-drenched post-punk that feels like a carnival riot in a basement bar. High-octane jazz-funk for people who like their music loud and unhinged.

Intro

Opus Kink sounds like a brass band that got lost in a punk club and decided to burn the place down. It is a dense, sweat-soaked collision of jagged guitars, skittering Latin-influenced percussion, and a horn section that feels more like a weapon than an accompaniment. The vocals are delivered with a theatrical, gravelly urgency that sits somewhere between a street preacher and a cabaret host, making every track feel like a high-stakes performance.

What sets them apart is the sheer maximalism of their arrangements. While their contemporaries in the 'crank wave' scene often lean into minimalism and dry delivery, Opus Kink embraces filth-funk and mariachi flourishes. They manage to be technically proficient and musically complex without ever losing the primal, chaotic energy that makes post-punk vital. It is music that feels physically heavy, vibrating with a restless, almost dangerous momentum.

Start with the EP 'Til The Stream Runs Dry to hear them at their most cohesive and barnstorming. It is the perfect introduction to their ability to weave together disparate influences into a single, infectious blast of noise. If you want something that makes the room feel smaller and the air feel thinner, this is the band to put on.

Opus Kink are an English post-punk band that formed in Brighton in 2017, consisting of Sam Abbo, Angus Rogers, Fin Abbo, Jack Banjo Courtney, Jazz Pope, and Jed Morgans. The band have released three EPs: Requiem For a Quarantine (2020), Til the Stream Runs Dry (2022) and My Eyes, Brother! (2023).
