Gritty Lithuanian post-punk meeting high-energy ska and funk. Raw, brass-inflected rock that captures the restless spirit of the Baltic underground.
Bix sounds like a lightning strike in a crowded basement. It is music born from the friction of the late 1980s Baltic underground, where the jagged edges of post-punk collide with the kinetic energy of ska and the rhythmic elasticity of funk. The guitars are sharp and biting, but they are often pushed forward by a muscular brass section that adds a layer of celebratory defiance to their otherwise moody, alternative sound.
What truly sets them apart is their 'live' DNA. Even on their studio recordings, there is a palpable sense of urgency and physical movement. The bass lines are often prominent and funky, providing a danceable foundation for lyrics that tackle social tension and personal freedom. It is music that refuses to sit still, blending the intellectual curiosity of art-rock with the raw, unwashed power of a punk show.
For those looking to dive in, start with 'Akli kariai' or 'Doozgle'. These albums represent the band at their creative peak, showcasing the unique way they weave together disparate genres into a cohesive, high-energy statement that defined an era of Lithuanian rock history.
BIX is a rock band from Lithuania. The band was formed in 1987 in Šiauliai and in a few months became a cult band. After a period of intensive touring throughout Europe and the US they were the most experienced Baltic band, and probably the best known in the West. Recording never was a strong side of BIX since they were a 'live' band. Their style of music may be described as post-punk with the elements of ska, Latin American music and funk.
