Playful, cosmopolitan art-pop that bridges Tokyo and New York. A collage of bossa nova rhythms, trippy electronics, and breathy, surrealist vocals.
Miho Hatori creates music that feels like a curated scrapbook of global sounds, blending the sophisticated pop sensibilities of Tokyo's Shibuya-kei scene with the gritty, experimental edge of New York's downtown art world. Her sound is characterized by a unique lightness: breathy, almost whispered vocals that float over intricate beds of bossa nova rhythms, trip-hop beats, and quirky electronic textures.
What truly sets her apart is her ability to inhabit multiple personas and projects while maintaining a distinct sonic fingerprint. Whether she is exploring Brazilian-influenced melodies or avant-garde soundscapes, there is always a sense of playful curiosity and intellectual depth. Her work often feels like a bridge between the digital and the organic, using samplers to create warmth and human connection.
To understand her evolution, start with her 2005 solo debut Ecdysis, which showcases her gift for melody and atmosphere. From there, explore her more recent experimental work like Between Isekai and Slice of Life to hear how she continues to push the boundaries of electronic storytelling.
