Intro

Listening to Michael Feinstein is like stepping into a perfectly preserved mid-century supper club where the lighting is always low and the martinis are always cold. His music is defined by a deep, reverent intimacy, centered around his nimble piano work and a vocal style that prioritizes the clarity and emotional intent of the lyric above all else. It is the sound of high-society Manhattan, polished to a mirror shine but still possessing a warm, human heart.

What makes Feinstein truly distinctive is his dual role as a performer and a musical historian. He doesn't just sing these songs; he inhabits them with an anthropological precision, often restoring lost verses or honoring the original arrangements of Gershwin, Porter, and Berlin. His phrasing is conversational yet impeccably controlled, bridging the gap between the theatricality of Broadway and the relaxed cool of traditional pop.

For those new to his catalog, start with 'Isn't It Romantic' to hear him at his most quintessential. It captures the essence of his ability to make a decades-old standard feel like a fresh, private confession. If you want to hear his more expansive, collaborative side, 'The Power of Two' offers a brilliant look at how his classic sensibilities play against contemporary energy.
